Today is sort of the first free Saturday morning I've had since school ended, and so I got up, got my cheerios, and sat down in front of the TV for some Saturday morning cartoons. Even though I do know that the heyday of cartoons is long past, I was still hoping for something......There was nothing! NOTHING!!!! I became nostalgic for the Saturday morning cartoons that shaped my childhood (yes, shaped it, I say!): Looney Tunes with Bugs Bunny and Road Runner and Wiley Coyote. Scooby Doo and Shaggy. The Jetsons. Johnny Quest. And so my question of the day is:
What was/is (even though I don't think present tense is merited) your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
There is no doubt about it for me. My favorite was Bugs Bunny with its cast of wacked out, but endearing characters. Listening closely to the mumbling Elmer Fudd or Bugs or Yosemite Sam, you could hear things that were designed for the adult watchers. My favorite episode of all time was one I will call, "A Night at the Opera." Fudd is huntin' wabbits and chases Bugs into the Met . Hilarity ensues. Looney Tunes was one of the only cartoons my brother and I would watch together. All quarrels were ended. All contests put on hold. All teasing and taunts were silenced during an unspoken truce, and we would laugh.

I'm with you on Bugs Bunny. My favorites (in addition to WHAT'S OPERA, DOC?)were the ones with Daffy Duck -- Wabbit Season/Duck Season/Wabbit Season/Duck Season/Wabbit Season/Wabbit Season/Duck Season/BANG!
ReplyDeleteToday's kids are culturally deprived not knowing these cartoons like we do.
Looney Tunes is probably my favorite, but I did have a soft spot for Jem and the Holograms. I liked that hair!
