Today is sort of the first free Saturday morning I've had since school ended, and so I got up, got my cheerios, and sat down in front of the TV for some Saturday morning cartoons. Even though I do know that the heyday of cartoons is long past, I was still hoping for something......There was nothing! NOTHING!!!! I became nostalgic for the Saturday morning cartoons that shaped my childhood (yes, shaped it, I say!): Looney Tunes with Bugs Bunny and Road Runner and Wiley Coyote. Scooby Doo and Shaggy. The Jetsons. Johnny Quest. And so my question of the day is:
What was/is (even though I don't think present tense is merited) your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
There is no doubt about it for me. My favorite was Bugs Bunny with its cast of wacked out, but endearing characters. Listening closely to the mumbling Elmer Fudd or Bugs or Yosemite Sam, you could hear things that were designed for the adult watchers. My favorite episode of all time was one I will call, "A Night at the Opera." Fudd is huntin' wabbits and chases Bugs into the Met . Hilarity ensues. Looney Tunes was one of the only cartoons my brother and I would watch together. All quarrels were ended. All contests put on hold. All teasing and taunts were silenced during an unspoken truce, and we would laugh.

Looks like it's going to rain again!
Can you believe it? The rain here in Kentucky has been in the realm of Seattle-like proportions; and apparently, it is going to continue in this manner at least through this week. I have to be honest here.....I have really enjoyed this spring--rainy as it is--because it's been a true spring. Usually, we have a few sparse weeks of spring and then the humidity and heat crank up. Spring is my second favorite season. Fall is actually my favorite season (even though it signals the beginning of the school year). I think all of my most rewarding childhood memories are associated with fall.
Fall is harvest time; and although there were some activities I hated--like digging potatoes and stripping tobacco--I loved taking the tobacco up out of the fields. For some reason, my father liked to do this at night, so often we would all be out in the fields working by the literal light of the moon and a the feeble headlights of the tractor. Sometimes I would drive the tractor and sometimes I would hand up the sticks out of the field. It was almost exciting because there were challenges involved: it was dark, there were things you could trip over if you weren't paying attention, and you had to keep up with the speed of the wagon as it set the pace for loading the tobacco on the wagon. It was a test of your coordination, cooperation, and awareness. And although it was work, I enjoyed it! This brings me to the question of the day:
What is your favorite time of year and why?

Here we go again!
I tried this once before...in 2007. It was over a peaceful spring break when I had time to think. Now it's 2009, and it's peaceful once again, and I think I have time to think again. This blog will be similar to the other one in that I will post a general question for discussion. Hopefully, people will respond. Hopefully......
So, the question for today is: What is the most important thing you have to accomplish today?
My list today included cleaning out and organizing my linen closet. It was an adventure in old towels and expired products. There was a time when my washer was leaving bleach spots on towels....only towels. How is that even remotely possible? Anyway, I spent the morning asking myself, "Presentable? Or rag?" Needless to say, there was a great deal of moral conflict. But at the end of the day, I have a neater linen closet with just a few bleach spotted towels. Am I content? Yes!
